In our initial installment, I shared with you the “First Limitation.” After taking the assessment you should be able to determine if you’re ready to stop settling for the self you know and open your heart up to the self that is yearning to emerge.
This isn’t something you can simply “know” in your mind. You must choose from your heart because this evolution of self serves to help you live a soul-stirring, purpose-driven life, one replete with creativity, joy, and compassion. In the ancient book of Romans 14:17, it declares the kingdom of God to be “righteousness, peace and joy in spirit.” And, that’s exactly what this conversation is about--experiencing the God kind of LIFE.
Overcoming the first limitation feels like a huge step, and it is because it properly positions you to overcome the second limitation, and when you do, you can experience a level of freedom that few experience.
What is the second limitation, you ask?
According to Ken Robinson in his book The Element,
“The second limitation is in our understanding in how all of these capacities relate to each other holistically.”
You’ve been taught to think topically, but not systematically, or in this case, holistically.
What’s the difference?
Topical thinking perceives the events in your life as isolated moments in time with no relation to the whole. We falsely apply this thinking when attempting to answer the question, “What do I desire?” and our answer usually falls short. We know we desire more, yet we fail to realize that we are using a mental model of the world that is extremely limiting.
Employing holistic thinking is about seeing how the parts of your life relate to the whole. It’s about recognizing your joy for painting and your passion for consulting the elderly. It’s about seeing how your six-month stint abroad informs how you see the world. When you understand how to appreciate ALL of you, you will no longer attempt to stuff, shrivel up, or mute the full range of your magnitude. Read that last sentence again.
Read it one more time. (I’m being a bit forceful here, I know.)
This time take out a piece of paper and write it down, but personalize it. “I will no longer attempt to stuff, shrivel up, or mute the full range of my magnitude.”
While you’re at it, (tweet it).
So what will you do instead?
The same thing I tell all my clients to do. You will step into your authority, own your throne, and create a brand that represents the totality of who you are: a mom, wife, businesswoman, spiritual, God-centered, bold, unabashed.
You have to learn to expand your capacity if you want to create the results you desire. As a trained human developmentalist, I live to see you break through your glass ceilings.

“The first limitation is in our understanding of the range of our capacities.”
I read this quote when I was 27 years old.
In fact, The Element by Sir Ken Robinson was one of the first books I read in a series of events that helped me unfold a greater degree of my giftings.
The book was a breath of fresh air. After being in my career of choice for 10 years. I wasn’t able to breathe. I was suffering in the smallness of it. I knew there was more, but this is what I was “supposed” to be. This quote revealed what my spirit knew, but lacked the words to express. I marked the book up, and in the margins, I wrote, “Yes! Society tells you you can only be and do one thing.”
We even ask kids, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” (Stop that!)
That’s the lie we learn. Men have more leeway. Men are expected to diversify their talents. Not women, especially if you’re a mom.
We’re told to find something you’re good at (make a lot of money) and do that. Even if you outgrow it, no longer want to do or it, or maybe you do want to do that plus other things, who cares about how you feel? Stay on target and grow with the company or devote all of your being to your child.
It spoke to me because even though I loved teaching, I desired to teach outside the classroom. I desired to speak on stages, own my own school, and run a thriving business. The thought of doing that came up against deeply held beliefs that made me feel like doing this would upset so many people.
For a year, I held onto that quote.
But it was the next part of the quote that blew me away,
“We are all born with extraordinary powers of imagination, intelligence, feeling, intuition, spirituality, and of physical and sensory awareness. For the most part, we use only a fraction of these powers, and some not at all.” (Robinson)Wow! If no one has ever told you, my desire for you is to use the full range of your powers.
All of them!
But, you’ve probably covered them. Buried them deep inside. Who are you at your core? You’re giving the world a part of you. It’s time to experience all of you.
Are you ready?

One of the things I hate to see so many women do is suppressing, denying and hiding their true talents.
Unbeknownst to you, you walk around wearing a mask.
Many moms don’t realize it because they use their children as an excuse for wearing their masks. They say, "I'm doing it for the kids!"
May I suggest, you’re not doing it for the kids. You're doing it because that's what you think you have to do.
You're playing the game.
The game where you do everything in your power to prove you're good enough.
How do you play?
You get a good job. Dress the part. Look the part. Even speak the part. Heck! You soar as a leader, but sadly you do this while disowning essential parts of yourself.
So, instead of doing what you truly desire, you settle.
No one wants to acknowledge that they settled so you blame.
You blame your children, the bills, college, the job market etc.
You name it.
You blame it.
You see, your child does not want you downplaying who you are for them.
When you do, your child becomes an adult who walks in fear of being everything that God has called them to be. They pursue careers they hate, simply because someone told them they were good at it. Just like you did.
They sever relationships because they never learned or saw it modeled for them on how to live in harmony with who they truly are. These children turned adults get "good jobs," but deep down they are unfulfilled.
They live tragic lives.
I know what it feels like to live an unlived dream. To stay in a classroom because I'm "good at it,” all the while knowing that I was cut out for far more. Way more. The voices of "why don't you want to teach? We need good teachers,” haunted me. The longer I stayed (playing the game) I was keeping the vision “they” had for me alive; while truncating my vision. The one God showed me in my spirit.
No one talks about this, but living in the full magnitude of our light is more than most of us can imagine.
So we run from the light because we’re afraid we may get rejected or be alone. This is a call for you to take down the barriers and no longer attempt to prove that you're good enough. It's a call for you to stop masquerading. By doing that you're not living in the freedom you seek.
You're being an imposter.
When you finally give yourself permission to rediscover a deeper source of your own spiritual life, the gifts you've hidden for far too long and learn how to take back the power you've given to others, you'll connect with your soul's deepest purpose.
This is a wake-up call for you to discover the future you've always wanted. It's the ability to show up more powerful in your company, community and for your children. It's time for you to claim a grander part of you and access the divine presence you carry. It's about tapping into unlimited power. Because if you don't do this. Your child turned adult won't either. And the world doesn't need any more people like that.
