It's simple: Honor the voice inside of you.
I hope not.
Children know exactly where they are going. That is until some well-meaning adult misdirects them on what they can and cannot do. These well-meaning adults are nine times out of ten loving parents. This loving advice, done as “wisdom” comes from their own beliefs about what they believe is possible.
Unlike adults, children have a way of seeing possibility in everything. They aren’t tainted with all the reasons why they cannot do something. In fact, Jesus commands us to have “child-like faith.” This is the kind of faith that will enable you to take an idea, get it in your mind, and make it a reality despite what your senses tell you, you can or cannot do.
But if you constantly tell your child, “You can’t” or “You Shouldn’t”, you implant a virus into the handwriting of their subconscious. This bug of doubt or disbelief will guide all of their decisions in life. They will shy away from amazing opportunities that can change their life because they’ll hear you in the background saying, “You shouldn’t, “or “Get a good safe job.”
How does this happen? You pass down rules, folklore or ideas that you inherited from your parents which were passed down from their parents. Unfortunately, you don't realize that you are passing down limiting beliefs to your child. Most parents won't realize it until their child becomes an adult and the intensity of their fears surface as self-doubt, hesitation, and demotivation.
I’m certain that parents, teachers or mentors don’t do this on purpose. We all believe that we’re doing our part to save the child from heartbreak or future failures but, many times we are unconscious that we are disrupting their vision, casting doubt upon their creative brilliance and placing barriers which will slow down their ability to explore their authenticity.
We tell kids anything is possible but when they surpass our predetermined boundaries we choose to uphold boundaries of self-limitation, making them feel bad for stretching their mind to new possibilities.
Think of all the celebrities who dedicate their awards to some teacher in the fifth grade who told them they’ll never make it. Think of all the adults who meander through life unfulfilled, lacking drive or purpose. Why? They wanted to play video games designed for them but some adult argued, “That’s not a real job.” Or the girl who wanted to play baseball but that, of course, isn’t for girls. (Sense the sarcasm)
You never know who your child will become.
You never know what’s inside a person. There are genes, DNA codes, and absolutely beautiful talents stored inside all of us that are activated at the right time.
Yes! There are times when we can see a child’s potential in an area, but many times we can’t see it because our eyes are wedded to collective conditioning: ideas and expressions picked up from society, that keeps us locked into the matrix of smallness.
When we misdirect children off their divine path, we are conspirators in the havoc that they’ll cause on humanity because they’re on a false path. A path they were never intended to travel, but because you told them that they couldn't do what they truly desired (because it made you uncomfortable, fearful or downright uncertain) you forced your child to submit to a reality that’s not theirs - unhappiness.
So be careful,
Your belief in limitation just might be affecting your child.
But, there’s hope.
When you start regaining your creativity and realizing your true self, you’ll empower your child to follow their true inclinations.
Once you get a taste of what it feels like to discover your calling: your life’s task, you’ll experience an inner spark that only a few have felt. We admire them for their bravery. Call them geniuses. But they simply connected with their inner source. They were fearless. They got crystal clear on their call that was with them and first expressed in childhood and began their journey towards expressing it.
Remember, you are a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon. Embrace your genetic mark of brilliance that will never be repeated. Get support here. When you do, you model for your child the unlimited possibilities that exist. You will no longer defend limitation. You will no longer play small.
You will live in the magnitude of achievability. This is what we want to pass down to children. This is real education.
One final note: Teach your child the importance of living out their call. Teach them they don’t have to take on anyone else’s belief system, especially if it dishonors their call.

It’s interesting what happens when we decide that we want something.
When I was in college, I can remember seeing the T-Mobile Sidekick campaign banners at the Glendale Galleria. I had to have one. It was a 180-degree rotating display, a scroll-wheel that lit up in all the colors, and it was game-changing. I wanted one badly.
My friend Sheena and I planned on purchasing our Sidekicks on their release date. Unfortunately, Sheena got sick on the eve we were supposed to go to the mall and purchase our devices, but I was so eager to get mine that I stopped at the mall and waited in a long line before finally becoming the proud owner of a T-Mobile Sidekick. Eventually, I made my way to Sheena’s house to check on her. As soon as I walked in her house, she remarked, “You got your Sidekick, huh?” She knew I couldn’t wait. The price for the phone was $350. I don’t know how I came up with that kind of money as a college student, but I did.
When we want something we make it happen. We don’t care about the hurdles. We hop over them and make it happen.
I went to Vegas for my twenty-first birthday with a group of friends. On one of our daily outings, we ended up at the COACH store. From the corner of my eyes I spotted the most beautiful pair of jet black COACH sunglasses with a diamond butterfly on the side of the frame. The price tag read $150. Now at the time, that seemed like a lot of money. I was a recent graduate so money wasn’t falling out of the sky. I wanted the glasses. I figured it out. I had those glasses for fifteen years before I broke the side lens. (I’m still mad about it.)
Then there was the time when I wanted to take this action-packed eight-hour course. It was a full-day intensive with like-minded entrepreneurs to uplevel their skills. But, it was on my birthday. And, if anyone knows anything about me, my birthday is a “national holiday!” But, this class was chock-full of insight and resources. I had to be there. I decided to take the class. Most people would have been “too busy” to invest in themselves. I wasn’t.
Brilliant Mama, think of your last five big purchases.
Were they necessary?
It doesn’t matter. All that matters is that you had a desire for them. You didn’t make any excuses. You made it happen.
That’s what I want you to do when it comes to investing in yourself to build your business or uplevel your leadership. Break through your excuses of not having enough time or being able to afford it. When you invest in yourself, it’s not a cost; it’s an investment. When you invest in something, you can expect a return. When something has a cost, it depreciates.
Listen to yourself when you’re talking about your dreams. Observe the excuses you use to talk yourself out of not taking action.
Make the decision.
I hate indecisive people.
It reeks of insecurity and low self-esteem.
Make the decision.
And, your path will light up with insight, strategy, and direction for how to manifest the reality which you seek.
Make the decision, like my client Chiarra, who after investing in our signature training, emphatically stated, “If I can invest in Gucci and nice things like that, I certainly can invest in myself. Do yourself a favor. Invest in yourself.”
If you’re truly ready to invest in yourself, I’m inviting you into a visioning conversation to discuss what your future looks like and to help you stand firm in your spirit and live the kind of life you’re called to live. Let's develop you as an influential leader andBrilliant Mama.
